Lucas Digne says Everton can take another big step towards creating a Goodison Park stronghold when Marco Silva’s team host Manchester United on Sunday.

Everton are in rude health on their own ground, beating Arsenal 1-0 a fortnight ago to build on last month’s victory over Chelsea and a goalless draw with Liverpool.

Left-back Digne added to his growing reputation with a trio of stellar performances in those matches to continue his fantastic debut season with Everton.

And the player insists it is imperative Everton go all out for victory against United following the slip at Fulham last week which checked a three-match winning run.

“The last game at Goodison, against Arsenal, was very good for us and the fans,” Digne told evertontv.

“The atmosphere was amazing for the past few games. And I hope on Sunday it will be the same – and maybe the same result too.

“At the beginning of the season, we talked a lot about the Goodison atmosphere, because we had a lot of new players and we were surprised by it.

“We said it was really nice to play in the stadium and we needed to build something there with good results. To make it a place where teams come with a bit of fear.

“The last game [at Fulham] we did not play well and it is something that happens.

“But we played really well against Arsenal and the fans pushed us during the whole game.

“When you play well, the fans feel it and you give a lot.

“We are together and it is the best thing for the Club.”

Digne joined Everton from Barcelona last summer and has made 29 Premier League starts after marking his full debut against Huddersfield Town back in September by laying on a goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 25-year-old has sent in 245 crosses this term – the most of any top-flight player – and his tally of 52 chances created is the most of any defender operating in Europe’s five major leagues.

He has contested 62 tackles and completed 55 interceptions and 80 clearances, too, in addition to making light of his slight stature by winning 82 aerial duels.

The numbers all add up to Digne seamlessly adapting to English football after also playing in France with Lille and Paris Saint-Germain and for Roma in Italy’s Serie A.

And Digne is viewing United’s visit this weekend as another chance to test himself against some of Europe’s premier attackers, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer able to call on the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard to fill his team’s wide roles.

Equally, the Everton player is looking forward to continuing his left-flank partnership with Bernard after the pair linked up in the Blues’ past six matches.

“If you play a lot with one player in front of you, you understand him better,” said Digne.

“We have a good feeling on and off the pitch.

“For me, it is important to have a good relationship with the winger in front of you.

“Bernard is a very good player and a good guy.

“It is normal that after some months together we are building something and creating relationships [throughout the team].

“You start to know the person and the player better.

“This year we are building something with a lot of new players.

“We are developing understandings with the coach and staff and working very hard for the Club.

“And now some results are really good and we need to push again on Sunday for the victory.

“When you come to the Premier League you want to compete with the best players.

“They [United’s forwards] are great players and I want to play against them.”

Digne is firmly established as a supporters' favourite and footage of Evertonians singing about their “magic left-back” last week proved a social media hit.

“I was surprised when I saw it – and it was a very good surprise,” added Digne.

“It was just magic when I listened to the song… it was very nice and I want to say thank you to the fans.
