Matthew Foulds

Everton completed the transfer of highly-rated Bury defender Matty Foulds for an undisclosed fee on 2 January 2016.

The teenager came through the ranks at Gigg Lane, before signing a professional contract with the Shakers in February 2015.

He made his first-team debut for Bury in their Capital One Cup clash with Leicester City in August that year.

A cultured defender who reads the game well, Foulds can operate at centre-back or left-back. He made trial appearances for Everton's Under-18 and Under-21 sides after an agreement between the two clubs was announced.

After signing for the Blues, Foulds was part of David Unsworth's Under-23s squad that became inaugural Premier League 2 champions in 2016-17. His following campaign was disrupted by injury, meaning he was able to make only 15 appearances for the young Blues.

Foulds was part of the Toffees' Under-23 squad that won a Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup double in 2018-19. He saw his impressive progress rewarded with a new contract at the end of that season, penning a one-year deal until June 2020.

Contracted until: June 2020
